Chatiemac Club

The Chatiemac Club was established in 1896 as a private hunting and fishing club.  The lake and the land around it was purchased between 1896 and 1909. The Club has provided excellent hunting and fishing throughout the years and has established a prominent reputation of having one of the top 3 speckled trout lakes in New York State.

The First Pond Club was the original name taken by its members in 1896. After some research during the next year it was suggested at the next yearly meeting the the club name be renamed to The Chatiemac Club.  Chatiemac was the original Native American name for the Hudson River.

At 2,300 feet, Chatiemac Lake is the second highest lake in the Adirondack Mountains. The highest lake is Tear of the Clouds; the origin of the Hudson River. The Club is also at the end of 2.5 mile road is completely private. The only noises you will hear are from nature or you. Also, we only allow electric trolling motors on our boats. Electric motors are environmentally friendly and don't add any noise pollution. Because of it's seclusion, we also have a spectacular view of the night skies.

The Club House

In 1897 the cluhouse was built for the club on the east shore of the lake. the cludhouse, now called the Lodge, has 7 large bedrooms for the members and their guests to use throughout the season.  the Lodge is also the place for members to dine with seating for 30 and a unique commercial kitchen operated by the caretakers providing 3 meals daily.

Ater dining members can relax in the club lounge and enjoy a fire in the native stone front fireplace where hunting and fishing tales have been told for 100 years.

Fish and Game

The Chatiemac Club offers some of the finest fly fishing in New York State. In Chatiemac Lake rainbow and brook trout average 2 to 3 pounds.

Wild game is also abundant in the area. Bear, deer, partridge and snowshoe rabbits can be seen throughout the year for photographing or hunting (in season). Other activities available include canoeing, boating, sailing, hiking, or just relaxing.
